Overview

Psalm 23 is arguably the most memorized chapter in the Bible, yet its depth is often overlooked in its familiarity. David, a shepherd himself, writes from the perspective of a sheep.

Verse 1: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."

This is a declaration of identity and sufficiency. If the Lord is YOUR shepherd, then every need is already accounted for.

Verse 4: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me."

Notice: through, not into. The valley is a passage, not a permanent address. His presence is the antidote to fear.
